My education was in Comparative Literature at UCLA, with an emphasis on comparative dramatic literature of the Caribbean, Ireland, and the U.K. Initially focusing on 20th century Caribbean and Latin American literature, and on trans-national literary movements such as surrealism and Negritude, I shifted my focus to migration and 20th century drama. I teach courses in Modern Drama, Postcolonial Studies and Writing about Theater. My dissertation research took me to London, England, where I interviewed theater directors and writers about their work and observed the process of commissioning and producing new plays.

Current research interests include post World War II migration and British theater--with a particular emphasis on its ethnic and racial identity politics. I've just completed editing A Treasury of Poems about Cities around the World (forthcoming, Random House, 2004).
