08-09 Synopsis - Information and telephone numbers for the insurance company, networks, Third Party Administrators and the Health Care Advocate.

Understanding health insurance can be very difficult and complex at times. First there is the insuance company which underwrites the policy. This year the student health insurance company is United HealthCare. Then there is a Third Party Administrator, known as the TPA. They process the claims, pay providers and reimburse patients for covered expenses. The TPA this year is United HealthCare - StudentResources. Last but not least there is usually a Healthcare Advocate, or liaison between the patient and the TPA. Your health care advocate company is simply called
"Health Advocate". All the contact information is in the link above.

Most health insurance companies have contracts with 'networks'. Networks are groups of providers and pharmacies that agree to accept less payment for their services. The networks associated with the current student health insurance is United HealthCare Options PPO and for medicaitons it is MEDCO.

If you have any questions that cannot be answered by the above links, please contact health@dickinson.edu.

If you have other insurance and belong to a Managed Care network such as a Health Maintenence Organization (HMO), you must notify them of the visit and charges by phone within a certain time (usually 24 hours) in order to be reimbursed for the expense. Each insurance carrier is different, so you should familiarize yourself with your specific policy guidelines for notification and reimbursement.
