You can choose between the following two courses:

Math 151: Introduction to Calculus (this course is offered every semester)
Math 170: Single Variable Calculus (this course is offered every semester)

You can find the course descriptions in the college bulletin.

Our recommendation

If you do not feel comfortable with precalculus and would like a gradual introduction to calculus, we recommend starting with Math 151. After taking Math 151 you can enroll in Math 170.

If you are confident about your precalculus skills, then we recommend Math 170.

Note: Data from recent semesters show that students who have received placement exam scores in this range (15–18) often find Math 170 challenging.

If you have questions about which class you should take, please contact the the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

It is difficult to leave mathematics for a year or more and then come back to it. If you think you will need a calculus course for your major or program (one of the sciences, economics, or pre-health) we strongly recommend taking it your first year, and preferably your first semester, at Dickinson.
