Men’s Golf Gets Sixth at Elizabethtown

The Dickinson men’s Golf team competed in Elizabethtown’s Blue Jay Classic on Thursday, April 5. The Red Devils tied York College for 6th place overall as a team with a combined score of 334, coming in two strokes ahead of conference rival Gettysburg. Stevenson won the tournament with a score of 322, barely edging out Messiah College’s team score of 324.

Senior Tucker Joyce ’12 shot a low round of 81 to finish 14th in the tournament. Chris Noonan ’15 also tied for 14th overall, making himself a regular team scorer for the Red Devils. The tournament winner, hailing from Stevenson College, shot a 72.

Following Joyce and Noonan was Mike Borkowski ’15 who turned in an 87. This is the first time this season Borkowski’s scores counted towards the team total, adding him to the list of strong underclassmen who will look to steadily improve the team over the next couple of seasons. Kyle Reese ’12 also turned in a notable performance, shooting an 89 and tying for 62nd.

Another first-year with a strong round was Linn Worthington ’15, who shot an 85. Worthington has played consistently this season and has earned himself a spot as one of the team’s top five scorers in almost every tournament this year.

The men have only three more tournaments before conference championships, beginning with the McDaniel Spring Shootout on Saturday, April 14 and the Franklin and Marshall Invitational shortly thereafter on April 16.

The women’s team also took to the links on April 5, competing in the Gettysburg Spring Invitational. The team finished fourth overall with a score of 421. The hosting Bullets finished first with a team score of 350. Melanie Campbell ’15 posted the low score on the day for the Devils, tying for 14th with a score of 97. Casey Colburn ’15 finished just behind her with a 99, good for 16th place overall. The women will compete in Navy’s home tournament on Saturday, April 14.
