Visiting Instructor of Swahili, Part-time position | The African and African-American Studies Program (AAAS) and the Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College are seeking a qualified individual to teach Kiswahili 1 and 2 at Dartmouth during the spring term (March 30 - June 9, 2009) of the 08-09 academic year, Kiswahili 1 or 2 during the summer term (June 25 - September 1, 2009) and Kiswahili 1 or 2 during the fall term (September 23 - December 9, 2009) of the 09-10 academic year. Established in 1969, the AAAS Program at Dartmouth College focuses on the multidisciplinary study of Africa and persons of African ancestry, past and present, throughout the world. The Program is comprised of 20 faculty affiliates with expertise in history, literature, religion, geography, anthropology, music, government, theatre, and sociology. The AAAS Program offers an undergraduate major and several minors. Established in 1982 to honor Dartmouth's 12th President John Sloan Dickey and his legacy, The Dickey Center is Dartmouth's international crossroads, where diverse cultures, knowledge bases and experiences are brought together to advance international understanding. Spanish and Second Language Acquisition, 1 year Temporary Position College of the Atlantic seeks a full-time faculty member in Spanish and Foreign Languages to begin no later than August 2009. The successful candidate must have experience teaching Spanish and will be responsible for teaching Spanish language at the intermediate and advanced levels to help students deepen their mastery of the language. The candidate must also have the ability to teach at least one other language at the introductory and intermediate levels. Also strongly desired is the ability to serve as an effective advisor and support person for students pursuing studies in less commonly taught languages. This is a temporary, replacement position which could start as early as the winter or spring trimesters of 2009. This position involves teaching five classes a year. Additional responsibilities include: advising students on language learning, directing final projects and independent studies, and collaborating with a visiting Spanish professor associated with the college's Yucatan Winter Term Program. |
This position requires: evidence of excellent language teaching skills and fluency in Spanish and competence to teach at least one other language as well. A Ph.D. in foreign languages or a closely related field is strongly preferred and the ability to teach in multiple languages is strongly desired. |

The University

Lead the Ph.D. program in SLAIT. Conduct and publish research in the field. Teach courses in
SLA/IT, FLE/ESOL education, and World Languages. Actively participate in masters and undergraduate program leadership in FLE/ESOL. Engage in the professional affairs of organizations appropriate to the field; advise students; network with schools and districts. Participate in governance within the department, college, and university. A courtesy appointment in the World Languages Department may also be possible.

#533 The Department of Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University seeks qualified applicants for a Senior Lecturer position in Applied Linguistics to begin August 1, 2009. The position is a 48-week, three-year contract, renewable pending satisfactory performance and by mutual consent. The Senior Lecturer will oversee and implement the university-wide International Teaching Assistant (ITA) program, supervise and coordinate the ESL instructional program (undergrad/grad) in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and supervise the departmental teaching assistants who teach in the ESL instructional program. This position will include opportunities to teach courses and advise students in the MA TESL and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics degree programs.
Substantial supervisory experience is required in one or more of the following areas of specialization: FL, ESL, and/or EFL language program coordination, teacher education, ITA programs. #531 The Department of African, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Literatures in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University (New Brunswick) invites applications for a full time, non-tenure track position of Language Coordinator in the newly-established Department of African, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Literatures. This is a renewable, three-year contractual position with full benefits.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition or a related field, with a concentration on Less Commonly Taught Languages of Africa/Middle East/South Asia, and should have a minimum of three years experience in Second/Foreign Language Coordination in an American academy. Candidates are expected to be competent in the use of instructional technology and communicative, standards-based teaching methodologies and must be conversant with the latest methods in Second/Foreign language assessment and should have demonstrated success in grant-writing.
Working in conjunction with the Language Institute, scheduling office and other relevant units, the Director of Language Instruction and Coordination will be responsible for the general management of language instruction in the department --including training, supervision and evaluation of language instructors; scheduling of classes and placement tests; and campus-wide promotion of the study of these languages. In addition, the Director of Language Instruction and Coordination will be expected to teach 3 courses per year in his/her primary language(s) of expertise.

record of active participation in one or more professional organizations
focused on Less Commonly Taught Languages, eg., the National Association
of the Teaching of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLTCOL), African
Language Teachers Association (ALTA), or the American Association of

Languages (ATSAL).
