POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT #3339
Associate/Full Professor in SECOND LANGUAGE EDUCATION
The University
of South Florida is a national research university with over 45,000 students,
is among the nation�s top 63 public research universities, is one of 39
community engaged public universities as designated by the Carnegie Foundation
for the Advancement of Teaching, placed among the nation�s top 20 �up and
coming universities� in the 2009 U.S. News & World Report and has
one of the largest, most highly regarded urban Colleges of Education in the
country. Approximately 4,500 students are enrolled in the College in
bachelor's, master's, Ph.D., Ed.D., and Ed.S. degree
programs. The College is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education (NCATE), and is ranked 45th nationally among
graduate schools of education by US News and World Report. The College
contributed significantly to the over $366 million in external funding generated
during the past year by the University of South Florida, and to the
University's national and international agenda through research, teaching, and
engagement with the schools/community. It is housed in a $22 million
state-of-the-art wireless education facility.
The Department
of Secondary Education at the
Responsibilities:
Lead the Ph.D. program in SLAIT. Conduct and publish research in the field. Teach courses in
SLA/IT, FLE/ESOL education, and World Languages. Actively participate in masters and undergraduate program leadership in FLE/ESOL. Engage in the professional affairs of organizations appropriate to the field; advise students; network with schools and districts. Participate in governance within the department, college, and university. A courtesy appointment in the World Languages Department may also be possible.
Qualifications:
Required�
1. Earned doctorate in second language acquisition, foreign language education, or related field;
2. University record commensurate with appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level according to USF�s standards (http://files.acad.usf.edu/facprogdev/5464.pdf);
3. Experience teaching in the area of second language education;
4. Excellent communication skills in English;
5. Proficiency in at least one foreign language;
6. Established record of research activity and publications in SLA/IT;
7. Documented success in college-level teaching.
Preferred�
8. Experience in program administration;
9. Experience in attracting external funding;
10. Service on doctoral dissertation committees;
11. Demonstrated expertise with contemporary instructional technologies;
12. Experience with distance learning;
13. Interest in interdisciplinary teaching innovations with other subject areas;
14. Evidence of collaborative abilities;
15. Involvement in the affairs of appropriate professional organizations;
16. Community involvement and successful foreign language teaching experience in K-12 settings.
Salary:� Salary competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
