This award facilitates attendance at the annual Northeast Conference by graduate students in the fields of foreign/world language education, applied linguistics or ESL/bilingual education.
A conference attendance scholarship underwritten by Annenberg Media which honors 2007 Conference Chair Marjorie Hall Haley, a passionate supporter of graduate students and teacher licensure candidates.
The award is presented to one student annually to defray expenses associated with attendance at the Northeast Conference in the year of conferral. The recipient must agree to attend the full conference including the Awards Ceremony held on Friday evening, and to provide a written summary of his/her professional development experiences while at the Conference within six weeks of the event.
NECTFL will waive the conference registration fee as well as fees for any Thursday preconference workshops the recipient may wish to take. NECTFL will also reserve and pay for a single room at the conference hotel for three nights (arrival Thursday/departure Sunday). The recipient will receive a $500 check following the conference to help with travel and meal costs.
Any graduate student who:
1. is a full-time student in a university Master's or Ph.D. program;
2. focuses his/her studies in one of these fields: foreign/world language education, applied linguistics or ESL/bilingual education;
3. will participate fully in the Conference scheduled for the year of conferral of the award;
4. agrees to provide a written summary of his/her professional development experiences at the Conference within six weeks of the event .
Application forms will be available here in June 2009 for the 2010 Conference; they must be postmarked by December 1, 2009. The form may be photocopied.
The recipient and a runner-up will be selected by the NECTFL Professional Development Committee.
