2002 NECTFL Summary
Breaking a 10-year-old attendance record, this years
conference at the Hilton in New York City was one of the most successful in the
organizations history. Attendees and exhibitors alike provided
positive feedback on evaluation forms, complimenting everything from the smooth
registration procedures to the excellent workshop offerings to the variety of
materials in the exhibit hall. There
were increases in the percentage of Arabic, Japanese, Latin, Russian and
Spanish educators, as well as increases in the number of postsecondary and
first-time attendees. 21% more
colleagues joined us in 2002 than in 2001! Highlights of the conference, held from April 18-21, included:

Last year, members of our profession demonstrated their
commitment to professional development, to the Northeast Conference, to the
city of New York, and to the role of language and culture study in making the
world a safer place by gathering together for the 49th annual
meeting. We need to see the same level
of commitment in 2003 in Washington DC!
