Voter Registration

Pennsylvania
Not from Pennsylvania? You can register to vote in Carlisle. The form is here, and is due by October 6, 2008. Important note: a postmark before the deadline isn't good enough. The form must be received by the deadline. (Other states may accept postmarks, and may have other deadlines.) See below for some frequently asked questions.

If you're registering to vote in Carlisle based on your residence at the college, use the following information for "address of residence", in the blanks numbered 4a-4c:

28 North College Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
Municipality: Carlisle. County: Cumberland.

Your mailing address (5) is "Dickinson College HUB #, Carlisle, PA 17013", as you would put on any incoming mail. There isn't room for the PO Box, but the post office can figure it out in this case.

For blank number 12, don't worry about your voter identification number. The registration office is going to assign you one. Carlisle is part of district 19, but other than that, just sign your application and mail it to the following address:

Voter Registration Office, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle, PA, 17013-3044.
Phone Number: 717-240-6385.

You will receive a voter registration card after they have processed your application. Check the card to make sure it is complete and accurate, and then keep it in a safe place. The first time you vote in your newly-registered location, you will need to bring a form of ID, and this card is probably best - it proves you were registered. It also tells you where you go to place your vote. For those registered at the address listed above, the polling place is Grace Baptist Church, located at 777 West North Street. It's within walking distance, a few blocks from campus.

Other States
A great resource is Declare Yourself, a website focused on getting each voice heard. It has links to the Secretaries of State for all 50 states; access to voter registration, absentee ballot forms, deadlines and procedures.

It also has lists of County Clerks/Election/Voter Administration Offices, so you know where to submit your voter registration, absentee ballot applications or absentee/early voting ballots. If you don't know what county you are in, check here - it's a rather handy place to look it up; by the US Census Bureau. Just type in your zip code.
