Welcome to the website of the Epsilon Chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma International Fraternity, the longest-tenured fraternity (since 1854) at Dickinson College.
The brothers of Phi Kap at Dickinson come from many walks of life, but we all share the core values of our founding fathers-- trust, respect, knowledge, responsibility, and integrity. We are proud to evidence our adherence to these core values by our strong commitment to brotherhood, academic achievement, responsible social activities and community service.
Not only does the Phi Kap chapter at Dickinson provide that all-important social setting for the brothers to interact, discuss matters of importance (not always matters on the classroom schedule) and develop deep and meaningful friendships, we show our support for the College and the community by both hands-on work and philanthropic projects.
For example, in the Fall of 2007, Phi Kap hosted its 5th annual "Crush Auction" on campus, and raised and donated over $1,600 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in addition to raising awareness about these diseases.
In October, 2007, Phi Kap co-sponsored an alcohol-awareness program on campus. As part of that program we ran an alcohol-free evening party at the Depot with a DJ and live performances by Dickinson College's own a capella and improv comedy groups. It was a great success with over 300 students participating! In recognition of this event, Phi Kap was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
Phi Kap's recognition on the Dickinson campus is not limited to its community-minded activities: the 2007-2008 “Mr. Dickinson” talent show competition was won by none other than our very own Ryan Sherman '10!
Our many activities and commitment to Phi Kap ideals have not gone unnoticed by the other Chapters of our Fraternity. At the 93rd Grand Chapter Convention in Boston in 2006, we received the “Chapter Excellence Award” in recognition of our achievements in scholarship, chapter management, campus/alumni relations and philanthropy/community service.
One important aspect of Phi Kap life that is sometimes overlooked is the support provided by the more than 40,000 Phi Kap alumni from campuses around the world. Epsilon Chapter alumni show their support of our activities in a financial way, and, equally important, they, along with Phi Kap alums everywhere, are always willing to offer advice and “open doors” to Phi Kap undergraduates as we consider post-Dickinson College alternatives, be it graduate school or career choices. The Phi Kap motto of “Once a Phi Kap; always a Phi Kap” is not just a slogan. It is an expression of the loyalty that our brothers everywhere feel for each other, a loyalty that is reflected in our actions.
I am honored to have been elected president of Epsilon chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma, and look forward, together with the current and alumni brothers of Phi Kap and our Chapter advisor, Brother (and Professor) Mark Overstreet, to continuing to advance the core values of our fraternity that make Epsilon Chapter of Phi Kap so pristine.
