The Dickinson College Farm

Dickinson College's Organic Farm

Starting in 2007, Dickinson will begin cultivating new ground to grow organic produce for the College Dining Hall! The College farm will support academic interests ranging from Environmental Chemistry and Geololgy to Photography and Creative Writing. The farm strives to incorporate student and faculty workwith ongoing projects addressing sustainable food production, renewable energy, environmental conservation, and livestock management.

The College Organic Farm is located in nearby Boiling Springs, six miles from campus. It sits along the Yellow Breeches, borders the South Middleton Recreational Park and is minutes away from the Appalchian Trail. It is an ideal setting for needed study breaks and will allow students, faculty, and staff alike to reconnect with their food sources by actively engaging in the production of all-natural fruits and vegetables. Not only does the farm offer opportunities for faculty and student research, internships, field trips and course support it is also a place where folks can get their hands dirty and participate in every phase of cultivating delicious and nutritious food.

Starting in August 2007, the Organic Farm will begin supplying the Dickinson College Dining Hall with substantial deliveries of all-natural produce. As the distance increases from farm to table, the Dickinson farm strives toward providing the College with fresh ingredients while reducing the distance food travels. Students returning to campus for the Fall 2007 semester can look forward to a fresher taste that is all-natural, local, and produced by fellow students!
