Dickinson Community Garden Rules

Our community garden will benefit from following some simple rules. These rules have been established to help our garden, its members and the surrounding community to maintain a beautiful green space.  Also, by having rules, problems can sometimes be avoided!  These rules will also be posted at the community garden for quick reference!  Please keep your copy of the rules.

  1. Garden plots will be limited to up to 2 plots pr individual and 3 plots per household.
  2. Garden plots should be cared for at least once every 2 weeks.  If a plot is not managed for more than 2 weeks, the lessee will receive a courtesy call and be given 2 weeks to reclaim.
  3. A plot that is unmanaged for more than 3 weeks, after a courtesy call is subject to reassignment.
  4. Each gardener is responsible for cleaning up his or her tools, weed piles, trash and other general upkeep of the garden plot.
  5. Any refuse collected in the garden should be deposited in the designated disposal area or taken home.
  6. Each gardener is required to fulfill a minimum of 10 volunteer hours toward general maintenance of the site from March 7th to October 31st 2009. A list of volunteer work options and sign-up sheet will be available in the garden shed.
  7. Garden plots should not infringe upon their adjacent plots. Please keep your garden under control.
  8. Only low growing perennial plants are allowed in the garden.  The perennial plants must depart with plot lessee if lease is not renewed.
  9. No illegal plants may be grown in the community garden.
  10. Weeds should be pulled just after their peak flowering stage! This will help to keep down the spread of weed seed in the garden.
  11. The Dickinson Community Garden and its lessees are not responsible for any personal tools or belongings that are stolen.  Please monitor and store your own things.
  12. Please use only your own garden tools!
  13. No pets are allowed in the garden
  14. Children under 18yrs of age MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times while at the garden.
  15. Assignment of garden plots is fixed for the growing season.  Gardeners are not permitted to make changes in the assignments without prior approval from the garden leaders.
  16. Plot fees are due in full before the garden season begins.
  17. Preferences for plots will be given to last year’s gardeners first.  The remainder will be assigned on a first come, first served basis after plot fees have been paid.
  18. The use of ALL synthetic chemicals as fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides is prohibited in the community garden. Please contact the Cooperative Extension Office (240-6500) for information on non-synthetic alternatives.
